Help UMARC CLASS Support Families Impacted by Autism

Why Support UMARC's CLASS?

Do you know a family impacted by autism? It is hard to imagine an educational or health concern of more universal concern to families than the growing lifetime needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. One in 68 grapple with the challenges faced by both affected people and their loved ones: how to ensure quality of life, the ability to communicate, educational success and independence – basic human needs. UMARC's CLASS makes well-known speakers available to the local community, offering affordable, high-quality information to families and professionals. Support UMARC during Autism Awareness Month so we are able to bring in the best speakers to address topics families, professionals, and students wants to know more about! We also want to continue to expand our outreach and family services initiatives.

The University of Maryland Autism Research Consortium (UMARC)

The University of Maryland Autism Research Consortium (UMARC) is an interdisciplinary group of researchers in the Departments of Hearing and Speech Sciences, Psychology, Human Development, Linguistics, Kinesiology, and Special Education at the University of Maryland. Our goal is to advance the understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in children and adults, and to contribute to the development of effective treatments and interventions. Our research examines the social, cognitive, linguistic, and neural underpinnings of autism.

Community-wide Learning about Autism Speaker Series (CLASS)

The University of Maryland Autism Research Consortium sponsors monthly community-access workshops, known as the Community-wide Learning about Autism Speaker Series (CLASS), to support local families having members with autism affected by autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Our goal is to inform, empower and enable our community to address the many concerns facing individuals with autism and their families. Previous lectures have covered a wide variety of topics including financial planning for children with special needs, current brain research in autism, and ways parents can foster their children's language development.
