Ian Mather's 190-Mile Walk Across England For Travel Scholarships
I'm a "retired" Professor from the University of Maryland, who doesn't know how to quit. Throughout my career, education and international travel have been my passion; in combination they are one of the best ways to defeat prejudice, foster peace and promote international understanding.
What is the Mather Family International Travel Scholarship?
Several years ago I founded the Mather Family International Travel Scholarship to support the travel expenses of UM students, who wanted the experience of studying abroad as part of their undergraduate education. Students must be in good academic standing and propose a plan of study linked to their future degree requirements and long-term goals. Click here for more information. Since 2015, the University has awarded seven scholarships for students studying in London (theatre), Japan (disaster relief), Dominican Republic (economics), S.E. Asia (computer science and politics), South Africa (social entrepreneurship), Greece (civil engineering) and Italy (art history).
How you can help....
To keep up the momentum, I will be walking across England this August to help raise more funds for the scholarship. The Coast to Coast Walk will take me from the Irish Sea in the West to the North Sea in the East and cross the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. Please consider donating whatever you can afford to help future students! See my schedule below.
