Saturday Literacy Enrichment Program

The Saturday Literacy Enrichment Program (SLEP) is a sequential, cumulative, and multi-sensory reading intervention program servicing 35 children between the ages of 5-8 years old of Springhill Lake Elementary School. The goal of SLEP is to apply the instructional techniques used with students with specific learning disability (dyslexia) to a population of struggling readers so that these students can dramatically and quickly improve their reading, spelling, and handwriting skills. The pilot program is set to operate from September 2019 – May 2020, with 15 UMD literacy tutors working throughout the year with the children to ensure their academic progress. The funds we raise will help us provide PGCPS Background checks, medical clearance, literacy materials, and other expenses related to operating the program. We plan to send updates throughout the year to all donors detailing the progress of the children. Thank you in advance for your support towards SLEP.
