It is a very exciting time for the Maryland Volleyball program! Despite the challenges of the postponement of our fall 2020 season and playing an abbreviated, conference-only season in spring 2021, we’re working harder than ever to adapt to our circumstances and take advantage of the opportunities we’ve been presented.
Last spring, we announced that our team will have the opportunity to go on an 11-day European tour in summer 2020. Due to the ongoing pandemic not only in our nation, but also around the world, our trip has been delayed to summer 2022. We continue to advocate for the safety, health, and wellbeing of our student-athletes, and in making our decision to postpone our tour, we decided that waiting until the summer of 2022 will be safest to return to competition internationally.
This trip of a lifetime will include stops in Amsterdam, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy. This trip gives our team the chance to explore different cultures, compete against various professional organizations as well as respective national teams, all while representing Maryland on the global stage.
The goal of this tour is to promote individual and team growth within our student-athletes through cultural and volleyball exposure on an international level. The bond that is created through the additional practice sessions as well as throughout the 11-days abroad has the ability to enhance our student-athlete experience beyond compare.
Current Maryland volleyball student-athletes Jada Gardner and Erika Pritchard have played in international competition most recently on the Big Ten’s latest foreign tour. Their experiences overseas made great impacts in their game and in their lives.
To make this trip possible, we need your help. We ask that you continue to support the volleyball program and this trip as we are still short of our $50,000 fundraising goal. The generous support of our loyal friends, family and alumnae is crucial in providing this once-in-a-lifetime experience for our student-athletes.
The support given toward this international trip is truly appreciated by all who are a part of our Maryland Volleyball family and we’re excited to share these memories with you.
Thank you from Maryland Volleyball,
Coach Adam Hughes
