Support RUMD Loop’s Road to Competition Weekend

Hyperloop Overview

RUMD Loop is a Hyperloop team consisting of students from the University of Maryland (UMD) and Rutgers University (RU) competing in SpaceX’s Hyperloop Pod Design Competition. The Hyperloop is a cutting-edge transportation system involving levitating pods traveling at high speeds through enclosed tubes.  SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, proposed the idea with the goal of traveling between Los Angeles and San Francisco in 30 minutes!  To make this dream a reality, SpaceX started the Hyperloop Pod Competition challenging groups to design the pods that would travel through these tubes. Students at UMD sharing Musk’s passion for innovation formed RUMD Loop to help drive progress and create the fastest, most efficient, safest, and best pod in the competition.

Prometheus

After being selected as one of thirty teams to continue on in the competition at Design Weekend, we are moving into the building phase to create a fully functional half scale pod. Our pod, Prometheus, has many unique systems making it incredibly safe and efficient. The most notable of these system is our passive levitation system. By using powerful magnets arranged in a specific alignment, we can achieve and maintain levitation without drawing any power from the batteries. A passive levitation is very safe because in the event of power loss, the pod will remain levitating and oriented in the middle of the tube. This is just one of our exciting subsystem designs.

Community Support

To make these designs a reality and get Prometheus and RUMD Loop to California for Competition Weekend, we’re asking the community to support our project! All donated funds will go towards raw materials and equipment for building and testing Prometheus, along with transportation costs to get the team out to California. We have a highly motivated and dedicated group but we need the community’s support to make Competition Weekend the largest success possible! Please help us build the transportation of tomorrow by supporting RUMD Loop!
