Mayuri is a top ranked, nationally recognized Indian Classical Dance competition that invites collegiate Indian classical dance teams from all over the country to perform and compete at the University of Maryland. Our organization works throughout the year to organize a professional competition that showcases the unique style of Indian classical dance and expands the interest for this beautiful artform. Our success in planning the event allows us to raise funds for Sankara Nethralaya OM Trust (SNOM), a non-profit charity that provides free eye surgeries for the underprivileged in India.

Throughout the academic school year, our executive board works tirelessly to ensure our competition is a stunning event for all audience members and an open forum for students across the nation to showcase their creative and technical skills. All costs of the competition are paid through fundraising and donations.
Donations from LaunchUMD specifically will be dedicated to the costs associated with competition weekend. Costs include our competition venue in Hoff Theater, Mixer venue in the Stamp Atrium, rehearsal spaces for the teams, board for dancers during competition weekend, participation memorabilia for the dance teams and judges, and Mayuri-themed uniforms for our volunteers, liaisons, and members of the executive board. Through your contribution, we can assure the event is a success and subsequently the money raised during the competition event and ticket sales can be entirely dedicated to our associated charity.

Our associated charity, SNOM, is a registered non-profit created in 1988 to support an ophthalmic hospital in India and provide free eye surgery to give the gift of sight to those who can't afford it.
Mayuri donates all proceeds raised during the competition to SNOM and in the three years of Mayuri’s existence, we have raised over $5500 for SNOM. Just last year we raised $2000 and through that donation, we provided free eye surgery to 18 people. This year we hope to raise $3000 for the charity!
Gifts in support of the University of Maryland are accepted and managed by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., an affiliated 501(c)(3) organization authorized by the Board of Regents. Contributions to the University of Maryland are tax deductible as allowed by law. Please see your tax advisor for details.
