To keep the momentum going, we've set a stretch goal: Our hope is to raise an additional $5,000 to help us cover even more of the convention costs. We anticipate the coverage of the convention, including student housing and travel, will cost the college nearly $20,000.
We reached our goal for the matching gift challenge! In honor of Maryland Day, former CNSer and current CNN investigative reporter Chris Frates '02 matched contributions up to $500. A huge thank you to Chrism and all of the donors who helped us get $1,000 closer to our stretch goal.
ABOUT CNS
Capital News Service (CNS) is a student-powered news organization run by the Philip Merrill College of Journalism. With bureaus in College Park, Annapolis and Washington edited by professional faculty, CNS delivers news in multiple formats via partner news organizations, a destination Web site, a nightly on-air television newscast and affiliated social media channels. We provide breaking news coverage, in-depth investigative and enterprise journalism, and serve as a laboratory for students to test and develop innovative new methods of reporting and telling stories.
More than 1,000 students have gone through CNS, going on to intern and work at the nation's finest news organizations, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, the Associated Press, Politico, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, ProPublica, National Geographic, NBC News, The Dallas Morning News, The Wall Street Journal and more.
SUPPORT TERP JOURNALISTS
With this campaign, CNS will be raising money to send students to cover major news events, and in particular, the upcoming Republican and Democratic presidential conventions taking place in Cleveland and Philadelphia. The funds will also be used for student stipends, as CNSers often use their own resources to travel across the region covering breaking news stories. Using the funds raised through this campaign, we hope to alleviate out-of-pocket costs for our journalists.
