Summer 2016 Alumni Community Service Event
On July 17, the University of Maryland Alumni Association and Terps Against Hunger will be hosting a community service event at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center. Our goal is to bring together over 200 alumni and community members to package 50,000 meals. This event is open to all alumni, friends, and their families (attendees must be at least eight years old to participate). Teams from the different alumni networks in the DC-Maryland-Virginia area will be competing against one another to see which group can package the most meals, bring the most volunteers, and raise the most money.
All of the meals packed at this event will be donated locally, to food banks and pantries in the DC Metro Area. This project will provide much needed hunger relief to thousands of children and families in nearby communities.
The money raised from this Launch UMD campaign will solely be used to package meals. As a volunteer-run organization, we can ensure you that 100% of your donation will go towards packing and distributing our meals. At a per meal cost of just $0.25, any size donation will make an impact. Every donation made to this campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Terps Against Hunger; meaning that each dollar donated will allow us to package an additional 8 meals.
Join fellow DMV alumni in raising the funds necessary to pay for the meals we will package at this event. Terps Against Hunger will match every dollar that we raise to double the impact of every donation.
Why Should you Care?
Hunger disproportionately impacts children and has significant consequences on health, learning and economic security. This must change.
Homecoming provides us with the perfect opportunity to bring the UMD community together to make a difference in the lives of children and families in the surrounding communities.

A $10 donation will allow us to package 80 additional meals, nearly all of the food that 4 children require for a week.
A $25 donation will allow us to package 80 additional meals, nearly all of the food that 10 children require for a week.
A $50 donation will allow us to package an additional 400 meals. This will provide enough food for 20 people for an entire week.
A $100 donation will allow us to package an additional 800 meals. This will allow us to feed 40 people for a week or feed a family for an entire month.
A $250 donation will allow us to package an additional 2,000 meals. This will be enough food to feed two hungry children for an entire year!
A $500 donation will allow us to package an additional 4,000 meals. This will be enough food to feed four hungry children for an entire year!
This donation amount will allow us to package an additional 10,000 meals, which will feed two families for an entire year!
