Background
At the University of Maryland, we have approximately 3,500 Black undergraduate students and the average unmet need of an undergraduate student at the University is $9,000. This level of financial burden can be overwhelming to a student and their family and has led to countless talented and gifted students to dropout. To impact this, anchored in the Zulu philosophy of Ubuntu, meaning "I am because we are" the Student Success Leadership Council has created the Student Success Service Leadership Scholarship.
About the Scholarship
The Student Success Service Leadership Scholarship provides financial support to students who demonstrate a commitment to the Black community through their leadership and/or involvement. Current students, as well as newly admitted students, are eligible for the scholarship, and participants in the Maryland Ascent Program are encouraged to apply.

Every dollar raised through this campaign will be committed to a University of Maryland student in need while we build a lasting legacy of supporting our students who lead and serve!!! Our intent is to give out as many $2,500 scholarships as we can at the Gift of Giving Gala, April 23rd, 2022 which will be a part of the University's 1st Annual Black Alumni Weekend.
The number of scholarships we give out will be directly correlated to the amount of money we raise through this Giveback to Impact campaign.
Our SUCCESS and the level of our IMPACT depends on YOU! Please GIVE!!!
The scholarship will support need-based scholarship with the purpose of enhancing diversity, including but not limited to racial or gender diversity.
Gifts in support of the University of Maryland are accepted and managed by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., an affiliated 501(c)(3) organization authorized by the Board of Regents. Contributions to the University of Maryland are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Please see your tax advisor for details.
