Who Are We?

About Us

The Maryland Equestrian Club (MEC) is a student run organization that brings students together through horses. The organization provides students with any level of experience the opportunity to learn and develop horsemanship skills while caring for, working with, riding, and building relationships with the horses at the campus farm. MEC offers a variety of programs that are flexible to student’s time in an affordable and convenient manner.

Our New Lesson Program

MEC is a very unique club in that we provide students with the opportunity to ride and work with horses right here on campus. We are excited to say that for the first time in our history, we are able to offer professionally taught lessons to all of our riding members. Students will be able to hone their skills under the guidance of experienced equestrians. As part of this program, we are also able to offer animal management and training internships to students who have higher levels of experience.

Our Goal

We understand what finances can be like as a college student, so ensuring that our lessons are affordable is very important to us. While our lessons are already almost half the cost of other lesson programs in the area, we have had to raise prices due to inflation and increasing program costs. We hope to be able to reduce these costs so that more students will be able to participate in our program through fundraisers and campaigns like this one! Your donations could enable a student to begin the relationship with horses tomorrow right here on campus.

Last Semester’s Success

We are extremely grateful to last year’s Launch donors, who funded the purchase of two amazing new horses - Quin and Sonny - who have proven to be safe, reliable, and extremely capable lesson horses for all levels. We are also excited to be welcoming Clifford, a retired police horse, to our herd this semester!
