Team SOLAR | Our Mission

Introduction:

The elimination of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere is a critical step in the fight against climate change. Fossil fuels still account for the majority of energy produced worldwide, but the renewable energy market has grown exponentially within the last few years. Though renewable and low-carbon sources are certainly better for the environment than burning coal, the cumulative environmental impact (from raw materials, production, use, disposal, and recycling) caused by some of these sources are still a significant source of pollution. Solar power in particular poses a host of environmental risks. Over their life cycles, solar energy devices produced more greenhouse gasses on average than wind, nuclear, or hydroelectric energy.

About Us:

Team SOLAR is an undergraduate research team with the Gemstone Honors College who are working towards cleaning up solar panel manufacturing. We are looking to contribute to the technical side of photovoltaic recycling by developing a new or improved process for detoxifying and recovering usable materials. Our goal is to find an affordable, accessible, and environmentally sound method for EVA removal.

Your support will give us the opportunity to conduct undergraduate research and aid in our mission to clean up renewable energy.
