Bring Judy Shepard to UMD

Our Project

Judy Shepard has been invited to the Maryland campus to speak on behalf of the Matthew Shepard Foundation as part of the VOICES of Social Change Speaker Series. The funds raised through this initiative would provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and alumni to meet and engage with Judy Shepard in conversations on acceptance of diversity, the impact and legacy of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, the student perspective  as the “heirs” to Matthew’s legacy, how the Matthew Shepard Foundation has reshaped the debate on hate crimes in America and new challenges facing the LGBTQIA community in the aftermath of Matthew’s tragic murder.

Why Contribute?

Your donation would provide an opportunity for Lambda Pride to partner with the Pride Alliance student organization, which would introduce current LGBTQIA students to Lambda Pride, the University of Maryland’s official LGBTQIA alumni network. This fellowship would help to foster meaningful connections, forge lasting bonds between current LGBTQIA students and alumni at Maryland and establish stronger alumni engagement among the Lambda Pride alumni network. In addition your contribution can help strengthen ties among current LGBTQIA students by providing them a forum to share their stories as the successors and "heirs" to Matthew’s legacy and lesson.

What is VOICES of Social Change?

VOICES of Social Change is a speaker series sponsored by the Office of Leadership and Community Service Learning (a division of Student Affairs) in The Adele H. Stamp Student Union. VOICES of Social Change promotes positive social change among Maryland students and alumni through transformative learning and community engagement opportunities.
