Sending UMD students to the ACS conference
Who We Are
The American Chemical Society (ACS) Student Affiliates Chapter at the University of Maryland, College Park promotes opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in the scientific community. We are especially focused on connecting STEM majors to professionals in the area by inviting guest speakers to talk to our members about their work and explain how a STEM degree can lead to a successful career in a variety of fields.
How you can help
In the spirit of encouraging undergraduates to explore the professional world, our chapter has held a policy over the last several years of assisting students to attend the Fall ACS National Conference by paying for their registration fees. At the conference, undergraduate students have the valuable opportunity to explore the possibilities of fields within STEM, specifically related to chemistry and chemical engineering. The National Conference hosts a series of programs geared to help undergraduate students engage with the scientific community. In the past, members of our chapter enjoyed the many professional opportunities that these conferences had to offer, such as resume workshops, career fairs, speed networking events with professionals, and poster sessions specifically reserved for undergraduate research. Our chapter believes that by attending a national ACS conference, not only will members obtain a better understanding of their contribution to the science community and have the opportunity to network with professionals across the country, but they will also be representing UMD at a national level.
This year, the National Conference will be held in Washington, D.C. during our summer break. We are hoping to raise enough funds so that any member of our organization with an interest in attending this conference can attend. Any donation amount is greatly appreciated and these contributions will ultimately assist and foster the next generation of UMD scientists.
Note: If we are fortunate enough to exceed our goal, all extra funds will be used to support our outreach programs. We are currently helping local PG County school children with their chemistry studies and encouraging them to pursue a career in a STEM field.
